What is Restylane Silk?
Restylane Silk is a prescription injection that is approved to temporarily smooth out and fill in moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds (the folds or wrinkles that go from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth).
Restylane Silk will only need a few injections and there are no incisions or tissue removal with this procedure. There is a very low risk for complications, which pretty much means that almost everyone who wants to smooth the face and reduce wrinkles and lines can be a good candidate for a Restylane Silk injection.
How does it Work?
Overall, Restylane Silk may fill a gap in the filler industry by allowing practitioners to use it to treat superficial fine lines without having to worry about the possibility of the bluish hue. This quality may make Restylane Silk useful for treating superficial lines between the eyes, around the mouth, or under the eyes where the skin is thin and the Tyndall Effect is more common.
The main difference between Restylane Silk and other products like Juvederm®and Restylane®, is that Restylane Silk is designed to help treat superficial lines and wrinkles that are closer to surface of the skin. This is important because other HA fillers, like Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane®, can produce a bluish hue under the skin if they are injected too superficially. This is called the Tyndall Effect, and can be a significant problem when inexperienced practitioners are doing the injections. The problem has supposedly been solved with Restylane Silk, but everyone should remember that the Tyndall Effect occurs very rarely in the hands of experienced injectors.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body’s connective tissues. This sponge-like molecule’s primary function is to absorb water, which creates volume by plumping up the skin from underneath. Hyaluronic acid has been described as the body’s internal moisturizer, but its production drops as we age, resulting in a loss of volume and the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and folds in the skin.
Hyaluronic acid-based soft tissue fillers like Restylane Silk and others provide what nature takes away. They can correct worry lines and crow’s feet around the eyes, as well as marionette and smile lines around the mouth. They are also effective in treating nasolabial folds between the nose and lips, and thinning lips.
